Introduction
Date and venue of foundation
The Department was founded on April 15, 2003. Its main objective is to conduct multidisciplinary research on national and ethnic minorities in the Carpathian Basin. Since its foundation, the Department has organized conferences, held in Pécs each year, furthermore it has joined the yearly conferences organized by the Hungarian Sociological Society twice (2005 and 2006) with sessions.
László Kupa was born in Budapest in 1953; he obtained a degree in Law and another one in Sociology. He has been working in higher education since 1980. He was awarded CSc (in Sociology) in 1992, habilitated at ELTE and was promoted to full professor in 1999. Currently he is working at the Sociology Department of the Faculty of Humanities at the Pécs University. His field of research: History of Hungarian Sociology, research on ethnic minorities. He published two own books, edited ten other books, two with co-editors. He is divorced with a child (Szilvia).
